Whakanui Whaiora: Festive Self-Care edition
This month we hosted another Lived Experience Gathering, Whakanui Whaiora, this time in West Auckland. Our hui was themed around festive self-care. The holidays can be a difficult time for Tangata Whaiora, as we can encounter discrimination around our mental distress, which leads to exclusion and isolation.
We enjoyed a big whanaungatanga/connection circle, and heard from two guest speakers. Our Lived Experience Advisor, Chloe, led a kōrero on how to overcome mental distress discrimination during Christmas with practical self-care advice. Our second presenter Mark, who has Lived Experience of suicide loss, shared his top tips on how to manage grief and loss during the 'most happiest time of the year'.
"Thank you so much. You really made a difference to me in terms of feeling alone at this time."
