He Karanga: Call to action
Nōku te Ao is asking for your support to make changes to the Mental Health Act.
Welcome back to 2022! Hope you got a chance to have a break, connect with loved ones, and recharge.
This is a special call to action. Nōku te Ao is asking for your support. Join us and support He Karanga to make changes to the Mental Health Act.
Nōku te Ao: Like Minds aims to end prejudice and discrimination against, and increase social inclusion towards, people with experience of severe mental distress. The current Mental Health Act has not been working, particularly for Māori and Pasifika.
Nōku te Ao: Like Minds calls for any changes in mental health legislation to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and uphold the mana and human rights of all people living with mental distress.
The Ministry of Health are asking for our thoughts on what needs to change on the Mental Health Act.
We've been working hard to identify 16 priorities when changing the current Mental Health Act. We're asking you to stand with us to help end prejudice and discrimination in the law.
Any new mental health legislation needs to be written and designed by tāngata whaiora. Let’s call out institutional racism, prejudice, and discrimination in our mental health system.
Support our call to get services that meet people’s needs and are led by people with lived experience of mental distress. Let’s support tāngata whaiora’s decision-making about their own treatment.
Read our statement about key changes and add your voice, to support He Karanga and have your say on the Mental Health Act. Please consider sharing this with friends, whānau or workmates on your social media channels.

Ko nōku te ao, ko te ao nōku. Kia whakamana ai te kupu whakapuakanga i te ao whānui, ko ngā mea e parahakongia te wairua o tātou. Kia kite ai tātou ngā pakitara o roto, kia whakangu ō mātou korokoro anō hoki. Ko tēneki te wā i te porotēhi. Hai akiaki, kia tū pakari, kia panoni ana te kaupapa. Mauriora!
